And today is National Hug Your Cat Day! 🐱🤗
Now before we begin, I need everyone to understand something very important:
The hug featured in today's photo was performed by a highly trained professional.
That professional was me.
The cat being hugged did not necessarily agree with the mission.
But that's a detail.
The Great Hug Incident
When I heard it was National Hug Your Cat Day, I knew I had a responsibility.
A duty.
A calling.
I had to find a cat and give them a hug.
Naturally, I chose Trixie.
Now, Trixie is our Director of Inventory Control, and she is very good at her job. She can spot something out of place from across the Cavern. Sometimes I think she knows where every single item is at all times.
Unfortunately, she is also very good at avoiding hugs.
So I had to be creative.
Let's just say the mission was successful.
Trixie has declined to comment on the photograph.
Meet Trixie
Trixie is one of the most important members of the Thrifty Cavern team.
She keeps track of inventory, monitors our treasures, and makes sure everything is where it's supposed to be. Trixie keeps watch over our inventory of movies, books, collectibles, vintage treasures, and clothing.
She is smart.
She is organized.
She is professional.
She is also absolutely convinced that personal space is the greatest invention in human history.
I, on the other paw, believe friendship should be celebrated with surprise hugs.
We have agreed to disagree.
Meet Pixie
While we're celebrating our feline coworkers, I can't forget Pixie, our amazing Director of Logistics.
Pixie is the cat who makes things happen.
When items need to move from one place to another, Pixie somehow already has a plan.
When everyone else is still figuring things out, Pixie is three steps ahead.
She's clever, dependable, and one of the reasons Thrifty Cavern and ThriftyCavern.com runs as smoothly as it does.
She's also much faster than me when treats are involved.
I don't like talking about it.
Why Cats Make the Cavern Better
Every member of the Cavern family brings something special.
Some of us bring enthusiasm.
Some of us bring organization.
Some of us bring strategic planning.
And some of us bring surprise hugs.
Together, we make a pretty great team.
Trixie and Pixie help keep the Cavern running every day, and even though they occasionally roll their eyes at my ideas, I know they care about this place just as much as I do.
And honestly?
The Cavern wouldn't be the same without them.
A Message for Cat Lovers
If you're lucky enough to have a cat in your life, today is a wonderful day to celebrate them.
Give them a treat.
Tell them they're amazing.
Spend a little extra time together.
And if they allow you to give them a hug?
Congratulations.
You have accomplished something far more difficult than opening a treat bag quietly.
As for me, I may or may not have another hug planned for Trixie later today.
She doesn't know that yet.
(Please don't tell her.)
