Background and Recording
Debut with The Attractions: Following his 1977 debut My Aim Is True (recorded with the American band Clover), Costello assembled his iconic permanent backing band, The Attractions—keyboardist Steve Nieve, bassist Bruce Thomas, and drummer Pete Thomas.
Fast-paced sessions: Recorded at London's Eden Studios in just about eleven days between late 1977 and early 1978, the album was once again produced by Nick Lowe.
Live road-testing: Most tracks were written beforehand and sharpened during live shows in the latter half of 1977, giving the performances a tight, aggressive edge.
